Mikey Garcia turns down unification bout with Jorge Linares

Second verse, same as the first.

WBC Lightweight Champion Mikey Garcia has once again declined to fight WBA champ Jorge Linares, stating that he received a better offer elsewhere. Golden Boy claims that they offered Garcia a 50-50 split without the long-term contract that sank negotiations the first time around, but it still wasn’t enough to sway him.

Garcia did not say who he’s fighting instead, but it’s likely to be Robert Easter Jr. Golden Boy president Eric Gomez says that Eddie Hearn has made a “huge offer” to pit Linares against Luke Campbell in an excellent rematch and that Linares intends to fight in January on HBO.

It’s a shame to see two phenomenally talented fighters in their primes not fight one another, but at least the alternatives are pretty darn good matchups. So it goes in this ridiculous sport we love.
