Mickey Roman beats Orlando Salido into submission

Roman and Salido had an all out war on HBO tonight!

HBO/Ed Mulholland

My, oh my! We had ourselves quite an action fight in HBO's main event tonight between Orlando Salido and Mickey Roman! The two fighters delivered exactly what was promised and went head-to-head for 9 rock 'em sock 'em rounds before Roman eventually wore down and broke Salido's will to fight. And for any of you who know Salido, that's saying something!

The fight has a lot of back and forth action, with Salido starting strong but had Roman never backing down or giving up on applying non-stop pressure on Salido. That paid dividends down the stretch. Roman dropped Salido in the fourth round, but Salido came back fighting hard, winning rounds, only to find Roman coming on stronger as the fight continued anyway. Roman would drop Salido again in round right, and then again with a flurry of punches in round nine where Salido finally collapsed under the assault. The referee immediately waved off the fight.

Salido told HBO in the post-fight interview that this was it for him, and that he's retiring from the sport. He's put on a number of great fights and thanked the fans for supporting him throughout his career. For Roman, however, this was clearly the biggest win of his career and he couldn't be more thrilled.
