As expected, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai will indeed take on Juan Francisco Estrada on February 24th. The fight is now official for The Forum in Inglewood, California. K2 Promotions’ Tom Loeffler reportedly wants to make another tripleheader in the vein of last year’s “Superfly,” ideally featuring Naoya Inoue and possibly including Carlos Cuadras and Kal Yafai.
Sor Rungvisai (44-4-1, 40 KO) has won seventeen straight, and while fifteen of those were nothing to write home about, the last two damn sure were. After scraping past Roman Gonzalez in their first meeting, Sor Rungvisai knocked the pound-for-pound great out cold in September to secure his place atop the super flyweight division.
On the same card, Estrada (36-2, 25 KO) made a case for being number two by outslugging Cuadras, scoring a knockdown in the tenth that turned out to be decisive. He’s got a deeper resume than Sor Rungvisai outside the Thai’s last two fights, but Sor Rungvisai’s size and power are not to be ignored.
We’ll let you guys know when and if we get word of “Superfly 2’s” supporting cast.
