As unbelievable as it sounds (and it sounds pretty farfetched), UFC commentator Joe Rogan mentions on his podcast that Floyd Mayweather is in talks with Dana White to potentially land a major UFC deal. As silly as it may seem, Floyd has spent some time recently suggesting there's a pile of money just waiting for him in the UFC, and that he could potentially make a billion dollars to crossover.
Rogan, who is good friends with UFC boss Dana White, mentioned this on the topic during a recent podcast [via ESPN]:
"This is one thing I can tell you. Dana told me that Floyd wants to make a deal in the UFC, legitimately.
"I texted him, I go 'is Floyd really talking about fighting in MMA?'
"He goes 'Yeah, he's f------ crazy, I told him he'd get killed but he's still talking about it.'"
I'd like to believe that this is all smoke and mirrors because Mayweather, at 40, surely wouldn't leave the sport he's trained in his whole life to fight in Mixed Martial Arts, right? I mean, he obviously knows what happened when Conor McGregor tried to crossover, right? Or James Toney?
Personally I can't see Floyd risk getting his ego and limbs fractured all over an octagon — even for 'a billion dollars' — when he just made a ridiculous sum for the easiest boxing match of his professional career. But apparently this rumor has some legs to it, so it will undoubtedly fuel speculation. Chime in and throw yours around in the comments below!
