Promoter Frank Warren, speaking at a press conference for Billy Joe Saunders’ triumphant return from across the pond, confirmed a pair of solid fights for early 2018: the previously rumored Carl Frampton-Nonito Donaire matchup on April 7th in Belfast and a featherweight matchup between Lee Selby and Josh Warrington in Leeds.
The latter does not yet have a date.
As mentioned in the previous article, Frampton (24-1, 14 KO) vs. Donaire (38-4, 24 KO) is an interesting stylistic matchup that could produce some excellent action. If you’ve got BT Sport, don’t miss it.
Selby (26-1, 9 KO) vs. Warrington (26-0, 6 KO) is pretty much the UK’s top domestic battle in the lower weight classes. Selby has made four successful defenses of his IBF title, including one earlier this month, and Warrington has improved his career KO total by 50% in his last three fights.
In addition to these matches, Warren stated that negotiations have begun to put Sadam Ali against Liam Smith. He also mentioned Terry Flanagan vs. Maurice Hooker, but the less said about that the better.
