In this short video interview captured by Fight Hub TV, Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya gives his breakdown on what to expect when Billy Joe Saunders (25-0, 12 KOs) defends his WBO middleweight title against hard punching David Lemieux (38-3, 33 KOs) on Dec. 16. Check out what he had to say...
De La Hoya on the Saunders-Lemieux match-up:
"I think Saunders is a fighter who is tricky, who is awkward. He's gonna try to maybe box Lemieux, but like Lemieux said, he's gonna come right at him. He's gonna try to steam right through him so whatever Saunders brings to the table, I think Lemieux is gonna be ready for. Whatever he brings to the table, so whether he wants to box, fight, I think Lemieux can make it a very interesting fight.
"Saunders is tricky. Very awkward. And he hits, and he can bang, so it's gonna be a great fight."
On if he thinks Lemieux will eventually catch Saunders at some point in the fight:
"I hope somebody catches somebody, I want to see a knockout! That's it!"
Now that we've got Oscar's take on the fight, how do you fans expect this bout to play out? Will Saunders be able to effectively use his awkward southpaw style to out-box, or perhaps out-punch Lemieux? Or will Lemieux be strong enough to break Saunders through Saunders defense and get him out of there? Let me know in the comments below.
