The World Boxing Super Series’ semifinals bout between cruiserweight titleholders Oleksandr Usyk and Mairis Breidis has officially been scheduled for Jan. 27, according to a RingTV report. The bout will be held at the Arena Riga in Latvia where Usky, the WBO titlist, and Breidis, the WBC titlist, will unify their belts.
“I had a gut feeling that the World Boxing Super Series might return to Riga because of the incredible crowd at the Arena Riga in the quarter-final bout against Mike Perez,” said Briedis, who is rated No. 3 by THE RING.
“I’m really happy with how it has turned out. I am thankful to the Latvian fans who made it possible by being so passionate and devoted. Now it’s all about preparing for Usyk and putting up a great show when January comes.”
The other semifinal cruiserweight fight of the tourney will feature Murat Gassiev and Yunier Dorticos on Feb. 3rd in Russia, with the finals slated for May 2018 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The opening press conference and ticket sales for Usyk-Breidis are expected to begin next week.
