For those who missed it, you can watch the full final presser for tomorrow night’s title fight between Vasyl Lomachenko and Guillermo Rigondeaux, which will air live on ESPN. The is a technical match-up for the ages as two of the most decorated amateurs of all time will match wits against one another in the professional ranks. Catch a full preview of the fight right here.
During the press conference, the first question posed to Rigondeaux was who in the world is the person running his rambunctious Twitter account?!
“Me right here!” Rigondeaux declared.
We know that can’t be exactly true, though. RIgondeaux hardly speaks a lick of English, so it can’t be him writing all those tweets, but that’s not to say it doesn’t reflect his thoughts and beliefs and thereby authorized on his behalf.
Any ol’ way, Rigondeaux was then asked about what encouraged him to move up two weight classes to take on one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport. Rigondeaux fielded the question by deciding he first wanted to acknowledge another top fighter in the crowd — Terence Crawford. Looking directly at Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, Rigondeaux stated:
“[Crawford’s] the best you’ve got.”
Arum then shot back with a question:
“You want to fight him next?”
“Yeah, after this I’m ready to go up,” Rigondeaux responded (in a seemingly joking manner).
Soon thereafter it was Lomachenko’s turn to speak his piece and offered these thoughts on what this fight means for his career:
“This fight very important for me because a lot of people are fans, a lot of media want this fight. If it’s very special fight for them then it’s special for me. It will be interesting.”
