Ivan Baranchyk had to get off the canvas, but in the end he did more than enough to secure a win over Abel Ramos in tonight’s slugfest main event on ShoBox: The New Generation.
Baranchyk (14-0, 10 KO) won an unanimous decision on scores of 97-92, 97-93, and 99-91, with both fighters dropped in a nasty third round, and Ramos down again in the fourth.
The 24-year-old Baranchyk, a noted junior welterweight prospect, continues his climb up the ladder with the win, while Ramos falls to 17-2-2 (12 KO) in a spirited defeat.
In cruiserweight action — though just north of the light heavyweight limit — Joseph Williams (11-0, 7 KO) won an eight-round majority decision over Lenin Castillo (15-1-1, 10 KO). Scores were 76-76, 77-75, and 78-74 for Williams.
Spanish super featherweight Jon Fernandez improved to 11-0 (9 KO) with a TKO-3 victory over Ernesto Garza III (7-2, 4 KO). Garza was down in round one, and was finished off at 1:39 of the third.
