Despite Floyd Mayweather’s claim that he’s close to a deal to fight UFC star Conor McGregor, UFC boss Dana White says there’s “no deal,” speaking with TMZ.

White and UFC have McGregor under contract, and surely aren’t dying to see their most bankable star embarrassed in a boxing match with a living legend who has dominated and embarrassed top-flight pro boxers for years. For that reason, among others, White and UFC are seen, whether right or wrong, as the biggest roadblock in getting a circus fight between Mayweather and McGregor done. (In all reality, there may be many, many other reasons it wouldn’t happen.)

I personally remain incredibly skeptical this fight is ever going to happen, but again, I’m all for it. Mayweather isn’t going to box again in any normal way, it appears, and you can always not watch the sideshow if you want, but to me, whatever, it’s a thing that could be done, in theory, and maybe it would be an amusing trainwreck.
