Fresh off of a record-breaking night, PBC on Bounce TV is chugging right along. Al Haymon and co. today announced a Reading, PA tripleheader for March 17th, featuring Amir Mansour vs. Travis Kauffman in the main event.
Mansour (22-2-1, 16 KO), still going strong at the age of 44, enters on a streak of awful luck. He was forced to settle for a draw against Gerald Washington in October of 2015 despite dominating the latter half of the fight and, three months later, ran roughshod over Dominic Breazeale for five rounds before suffering a heartbreaking injury. This will be his first fight in nearly fourteen months.
Kauffman (31-1, 23 KO) had some ill fortune of his own when Chris Arreola escaped with a split decision two Decembers ago, but a failed drug test turned it into a no-decision. He last fought in September, blowing out Josh Gormley in two on the Easter Jr.-Commey undercard.
The co-feature figures to be a bit more intriguing, pitting Omar Douglas against Edner Cherry at lightweight. Douglas (17-1, 12 KO) gave Javier Fortuna a scare with a first-round knockdown last November, but ultimately lost his "0" via unanimous decision. Cherry (35-7-2, 19 KO), meanwhile, was arguably robbed in his IBF title shot against Jose Pedraza and arguably robbed Haskell Rhodes his next time out.
Finally, cruiserweight stalwart Steve Cunningham (28-8-1, 13 KO) will face an opponent to be named.
The top two fights figure to be competitive and entertaining. Not a bad way to spend a Friday night, I’d say.
