Canelo-Chavez: Live New York Press Conference

Tune in at 1PM ET to catch the live press conference announcing Canelo Alvarez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Wil Esco is an assistant editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2014.

Today at 1pm EST begins the full press conference for Canelo-Chavez, live from New York City. Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. kicked off their promotional tour yesterday in Mexico City, will hit NYC today, and then Houston on Thursday and Los Angeles on Friday.

Canelo-Chavez will take place on Cinco de Mayo weekend (May 6th) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas for 164.5lb prizefight between Mexico’s two biggest boxing stars.

Chavez Jr. hasn’t weighed-in under 165lbs since he fought Sergio Martinez for the middleweight title in September 2012. Canelo Alvarez, conversely, hasn’t officially fought over 155lbs after telling the world he has not yet grown into the middleweight division.

Here Canelo will skip fight past the middleweight division to fight in super middleweight territory in what should be a pretty fun action fight between Mexican rivals. There will also be a fun little non-championship, championship belt at stake for the winner.
