Flores (21-1, 9 KO), who slugged his way past Mario Briones and Ryan Kielczweski in previous featured attractions, struggled with the squatter Nguyen’s (20-3, 7 KO) aggression and physicality for the first six rounds before eating a brutal combination that splayed him across the ropes. Though Flores made it to his feet, Nguyen’s madcap assault forced the referee to step in.
You can watch the highlights below.
It’s a career-best win for Nguyen, who had previously lost decisions to then-prospects Luis Orlando Del Valle and Jayson Velez. It’s also just his third fight since October of 2013.
Earlier on the card, unbeatens Darwin Price and Brandon Figueroa had more success keeping their 0s. Price (12-0, 6 KO) swept longtime professional victim Hylon Williams Jr. over the course of eight rounds while Figueroa (11-0, 8 KO), a 5’8" super bantamweight whose kidneys I do not envy, tore up Raul Chirino in four.
