Boxing superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez makes his return to the ring on May 6th, taking on countryman Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at a catchweight of 164.5 pounds. The fight will take place on HBO pay-per-view from Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena.
In anticipation of the fight, HBO will be airing a Houston press conference live on YouTube at 2:00 PM ET. You can watch it above
Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KO), who knocked out Liam Smith for the WBO super welterweight title last September, has received considerable criticism for facing Chavez (50-2-1, 32 KO) after his handlers had proclaimed a need to "acclimate" to the middleweight division rather than immediately face Gennady Golovkin. Despite the weight difference, Canelo is currently between a -645 and -900 favorite to win.
The more interesting clash might be that between Chavez and the scale. The contract stipulates a $1 million-per-pound penalty for missing weight and, considering Chavez's history, that could be a very real danger.
