The machismo has finally hit a fever pitch! During a Univision appearance to promote their upcoming May 6th PPV fight at the T-Mobile Arena, Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. decided to make things a little more interesting by wagering their respective purses against one another. Now this fight will not only be a big, all-Mexican clash — but also a high-stakes, winner-take-all roll of the dice.

It’ll be interesting to see if this indeed becomes a viable wager, and if the loser is actually willing to forfeit his portion of what is expected to be a roughly $25M pot. My initial reaction is that while it sounds like a big deal, if it’s not written into the contract then it doesn’t really count for anything.

Canelo and Chavez Jr. are due to hold a live press conference later today from Minute Maid Park in Houston, TX. If we’re lucky they’ll up the ante with one guy having to cut the other guy’s lawn for a month.
