In a well-matched fight that lived up to the expectations, Jarrett Hurd came back from an early deficit against Tony Harrison to score a stoppage win and claim his first world title, the vacant IBF junior middleweight belt.
Hurd (20-0, 14 KO) was outboxed early by Harrison (24-2, 20 KO), but stuck to the game plan and was able to wear his opponent down, ultimately making him pay with a huge right hand that ended things in the ninth round.
It’s obviously a big win for Hurd, who now joins the top of the ranks at 154 pounds, and will have work to do if he’s going to keep his title.
