Golovkin vs Jacobs results: GGG wins close decision, stays unbeaten

Gennady Golovkin stayed undefeated, but barely.

Scott Christ is the managing editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2006.

Gennady Golovkin went a full 12 rounds for the first time in his career, and barely stayed undefeated, edging Daniel Jacobs by scores of 114-113, 115-112, and 115-112.

BLH scored the fight 114-113 Golovkin (Wil Esco) and 115-112 Jacobs (myself).

Jacobs (32-2, 29 KO) fought a clever fight, frustrating Golovkin (37-0, 33 KO) at times and ending his 23-fight knockout win streak. But in the end, the judges may have seen the power jab of Golovkin as the biggest difference maker, and in all reality, he did drop Jacobs in the fourth, and hurt him a couple of times otherwise, too.

But this was not an easy fight to score. Golovkin was not his usual Galactus-like self, perhaps because Jacobs is just that good, perhaps because he’s 34, perhaps because he just had a bit of an off night. Whatever the case, Golovkin had to dig deep to get this win, and there is certainly some controversy here, too.

How did you score it?
