Jermell Charlo’s mandatory WBC junior middleweight title defense against Charles Hatley has moved to the April 22 Showtime card, headlined by the welterweight clash between former titleholders Andre Berto and Shawn Porter.
Charlo (28-0, 13 KO) will be making the first defense of the title he won last May, when he defeated John Jackson for the vacant belt. The fight was originally scheduled for March 11, but that show was canceled.
Hatley (26-1-1, 18 KO) hasn’t fought since November 2015, when he went to Australia and upset Anthony Mundine on the road, dominating the fight before an 11th round TKO. Promoted by Don King, Hatley has waited patiently for his title opportunity, and now he’s got the date coming. He says he’s stayed in training, but it’s been a long time out of the ring, too.
Who do you like in this fight? Will Charlo make a successful defense, or can Hatley pull another upset?
