April 29th’s mega-showdown between Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko now has its first undercard bout, as Scott Quigg has confirmed he will face Viorel Simion at Wembley. The fight will be Quigg’s second at featherweight and first under the tutelage of Freddie Roach.
Quigg (32-1-2, 24 KO) made the move to 126 last December after losing a narrow decision to Carl Frampton the preceding February. In his debut, he took on fellow super bantamweight transplant Jose Cayetano and managed to stop him in nine where Leo Santa Cruz was forced to settle for a decision.
Simion (21-1, 9 KO), ranked #5 by the IBF, gave Lee Selby a tough out back in 2013 but ultimately lost his unbeaten record. He’s fought three straight times in his native Romania, taking decisions over Alexander Miskirtchian and Andoni Gago in 2016.
A month out, only this fight and Katie Taylor vs. TBA have been added to the card. Get a move on, lads.
