After completing his two-fight deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, heavyweight contender Luis Ortiz signed on with Al Haymon yesterday, announcing that he would next appear on the April 22 Andre Berto-Shawn Porter card. Lou DiBella today confirmed “King Kong’s” opponent: journeyman Derric Rossy.

Ortiz (27-0, 23 KO) fought thrice in 2016, defeating Tony Thompson, Malik Scott, and Dave Allen. Rossy (31-12, 15 KO) is arguably a worse opponent than Allen; he’s 3-7 in his last ten fights, including a TKO loss to Audley Harrison in 2013, but did give Vyacheslav Glazkov and Bermane Stiverne unexpectedly tough fights.

It’s yet another waste of time for Ortiz, who turned 38 yesterday. Here’s hoping “Darth Haymon” can rustle up a proper opponent for later in the year.

In addition to the main event and this fight, the Showtime card will also feature Jermell Charlo vs. Charles Hatley for the former’s WBC super welterweight title.
