Ohara Davies stayed undefeated, kept his WBC silver title, and moved a step closer to a potential world title shot down the line, defeating Derry Mathews in the third round in what wound up a one-sided affair.
Davies, who entered to the theme song (well, one of the many variations) of WWE’s Undertaker, executed the squash match to perfection, biding his time a bit for a couple of rounds and showing what he could do, before putting things at late in the third with a second knockdown of Mathews.
Davies (15-0, 12 KO) still has some work to do, to be sure, and Mathews (38-12-2, 20 KO) is hardly in his prime anymore, but it was an impressive win for the 25-year-old, who will climb some rankings thanks to the victory, and in a division that isn’t exactly stacked with great fighters past Terence Crawford, his path to a title shot could be shorter than you might expect.
