Hit the bricks, TBA. Your services won’t be required after all.
Gary Russell Jr. vs. Oscar Escandon, originally scheduled for this coming Saturday before the latter suffered a back injury last week, has officially been bumped back to May 27th. Though there’s not yet word of the undercard, which featured two of Russell’s brothers, the co-feature between Jermell Charlo and Charles Hatley has reportedly made the jump as well.
The card will still take place in Oxon Hill, Maryland’s MGM National Harbor.
If y’all don’t mind, I’m gonna go ahead and copy/paste the little blurbs I wrote last time.
Russell (27-1, 16 KO) has struggled with inactivity throughout his career, partially due to hands as fragile as they are quick. He knocked out Jhonny Gonzalez for his title in March of 2015, then stopped Patrick Hyland last April in his first defense.
Escandon (25-2, 17 KO) knocked out veteran Robinson Castellanos last May to earn the interim WBC title. His only losses are split decisions to current super bantamweight titlists Nehomar Cermeno and Moises Flores.
A quick look at May 27th on BoxRec reveals what’s currently a fairly quiet evening of worldwide boxing. It does, however, show former MMA standout Ryan Ford boxing against Renold Quinlan in Singapore. Small world.
Anyway, nobody’s produced a reason not to tune in for this one yet, so we’ll have you covered.
