Tonight on ESPN we were treated with a couple pretty good fights. In the main event junior welterweight Antonio Orozco moved to 26-0, 17 KOs knocking out highly touted prospect KeAndre Gibson in the fourth.
The fight was a good style match-up and was playing out as a close fight through four rounds until Orozco clipped the previously unbeaten Gibson with a right hook on the temple. That punch caused Gibson to hit the deck but he did manage to get back to his feet before the 10-count ended. The referee would then ask Gibson if he wanted to continue fighting and Gibson appeared to say no, forcing the referee to wave off the fight.
With the win Orozco will move forward with a title shot appearing to be on the horizon. Gibson (16-1-1, 7 KOs) will likely have to go back to the drawing board and see if he wants to try to bounce back after his first loss.
The undercard fight was a lightweight battle between Mercito Gesta and Gilberto Gonzalez. Gonzalez was the clearly bigger fighter inside the ring but Gesta used his better craft to outpoint Gonzalez over 10 rounds, even surviving a scary moment in the third where he was dropped with a nasty uppercut.
In the end the judges scored a unanimous decision for Gesta on scores of 99-91, 98-92, and 96-93. BLH scored the fight 98-91, Gesta.
