Middleweight Vaughn Alexander (7-0, 5 KOs), the older brother of former champion Devon Alexander, will get an unexpected shot on television as he’s just been slated to take on Andres Calixto Rey (7-5, 5 KOs) as the co-feature for the Sullivan Barrera-Paul Parker fight on HBO Latino this weekend.

Alexander-Rey had been originally scheduled as a non-televised 8-rounder, but the fight was elevated after Arif Magomedev got sick this week which canceled his fight with Elias Espadas.

This is a great opportunity for Alexander, 31, to build some career momentum in front of a national audience after he was recently released from prison last year, having served a 12-year stretch for armed robbery and assault. Alexander had been a well-regarded welterweight prospect under the guidance of Don King before going to prison, and was signed by Kathy Duva’s Main Events last November.

"It's a shame to lose Arif's fight, but this is an excellent replacement," said Main Events CEO Kathy Duva. "I'm thrilled that more boxing fans will get to see Vaughn Alexander in the ring. He's quickly making up for lost time, and this is a chance for him to really get his name out there in what I expect to be a tough fight against Andres Rey."

Rey, 34, is coming off of three straight wins over lowly opposition.
