ESPN2, 10:00 pm ET, Michael Perez vs Marcelino Lopez, Rashidi Ellis vs John Karl Sosa. This is what you’re going to be getting out of Golden Boy on ESPN2, if you were still wondering. And it’s not bad. It’s basically a one-promoter Friday Night Fights deal, except not on Fridays.
Saturday, April 22
BT Sport 1 (UK), 2:30 pm ET, Tommy Langford vs Avtandil Khurtsidze, Zolani Tete vs Arthur Villanueva, Tyrone Nurse vs Joe Hughes. Khurtsidze goes on the road in the UK to face Langford for the interim WBO middleweight title, a vacant belt that would have made sense six months ago but doesn’t really now, except it’s boxing so whatever. It’s a tough matchup for the unbeaten Langford, and I’d go so far as to consider him the underdog.
Sky Sports 1 (UK), 2:30 pm ET, Martin Murray vs Gabriel Rosado. This show also features Rocky Fielding vs John Ryder for the vacant British super middleweight title, and Sean Dodd vs Lee Appleyard for the vacant Commonwealth lightweight title. Murray and Rosado are both tough veterans on the other side of things at this point.
MDR (GER), 4:30 pm ET, Robin Krasniqi vs Arthur Abraham. Should be a fairly easy night for Abraham, who has proven time and again he beats fighters on Krasniqi’s level. The question for Abraham is if, at 37, he’s a real world contender anymore. We won’t learn that here, really.
SHO Extreme, 7:30 pm ET, Amanda Serrano vs Dahiana Santana, Jonathan Alonso vs Jose Miguel Borrego. Serrano gets the SHO Extreme headline slot here, as she goes for yet another world title. Alonso-Borrego is a meeting of unbeaten prospects. We may also see Richardson Hitchins in action. BLH will have live coverage.
PPV, 9:00 pm ET, Oscar Valdez vs Miguel Marriaga, Gilberto Ramirez vs Max Bursak, Jessie Magdaleno vs Adeilson dos Santos. This is a pay-per-view card because Top Rank had no other place to put these fights, basically. So, like, that’s why it’s on pay-per-view. It’s not because they’re excited to put it on pay-per-view. It’s not because they think it’s going to sell. It just is. Both Shakur Stevenson and Fazliddin Gaibnazarov will make their pro debuts on this card, too.
SHO, 9:30 pm ET, Andre Berto vs Shawn Porter, Jermell Charlo vs Charles Hatley. A pair of notable fights at 147 and 154, with Berto trying to claw his way back into welterweight contention against contender Porter, and Charlo-Hatley for the WBC junior middleweight title. BLH will have live coverage.
Televisa (MEX), 11:00 pm ET, Ibeth Zamora Silva vs Esmeralda Moreno. The WBC light flyweight title is on the line in the main event. This show also features (as of now, anyway) the pro boxing debut of Dulce Garcia, formerly known as Sexy Star in lucha libre, and the wife of Jhonny Gonzalez.
