Beibut Shumenov out of Yunier Dorticos fight with eye injury

Neither man has fought since last May

The ride never ends.

The ever-troubled WBA unification bout between Beibut Shumenov and Yunier Dorticos, originally scheduled for a week from Saturday (4/29), is off. Shumenov has reportedly suffered an eye injury while sparring, leaving him out of action until June.

At least from here, I can’t see anything stopping them from re-booking. “Super” champion Denis Lebedev has been MIA since his loss to Murat Gassiev in November and neither Shumenov nor Dorticos have expressed interest in facing anyone than each other or Lebedev.

There’s no word yet as to whether the PBC on FS1 card the two headlined will continue as planned or follow its erstwhile main event. The only remaining fight of note is an interim WBA featherweight title fight between Carlos Zambrano and Claudio Marrero.

On the bright side, April 29th remains a busy day of boxing with Anthony Joshua vs. Wladimir Klitschko. Fingers crossed on that one.
