Jermell Charlo wanted to make a statement, and he did all he could tonight against Charles Hatley, owning the ring and knocking his challenger out in the sixth round on Showtime.
Charlo (29-0, 14 KO) isn’t known as a puncher, but this is two straight world title fights where he’s knocked out his opponent. This was his first defense of the WBC junior middleweight title that he won last year, and he was simply the better man in the ring, no ifs, ands, or buts.
Here’s a look at the KO, which joins the KO of the Year race:

Charlo, 26, also dropped Hatley (26-2-1, 18 KO) in the third round, and pretty much made Hatley look overmatched for the duration of the bout, after a feeling out process in the first round.
Hopefully, this will lead to Charlo getting a bigger fight at 154, and he made a specific challenge after the bout: “They got a guy named Jarrett Hurd that took my brother’s (old) title, we could unify.”
Hurd (20-0, 14 KO) won the vacant IBF title, formerly held by Jermell’s brother Jermall, earlier this year.
