Well, a fight between Manny Pacquiao and Jeff Horn has reportedly been signed-and-sealed according to advisor Michael Koncz. Pacquiao will be looking to defend his WBO title against Horn in his native Australia this summer.
"We signed the Jeff Horn contract this morning. Fight is July 2 in Brisbane, Australia," Pacquiao's adviser Michael Koncz told AFP.
I guess this means there will be no more online polls asking fans for the fight they want to see. Despite Horn coming dead last in Pacquiao’s poll asking who the fans wanted as an opponent, and last by a considerable margin, it’s clear that fanfare won’t be the driving force behind this event. Instead it was the money that Aussie investors had on the table which steered things in this direction.
Horn (16-0-1, 11 KOs) is little known to Western civilization — really all civilization outside of Australia — but credit to him for landing a marquee fight on his home soil. It will certainly be a great opportunity to make a name for himself worldwide if he can pull off a massive upset over an all-time great.
