As talk continues to swirl about a possible heavyweight fight between Tony Bellew and Deontay Wilder, Bellew gives his assessment of Wilder to Sky Sports in which he admits Wilder has serious power, but says he’ll always be vulnerable to fighters with good ring IQ.
"Wilder is exactly what it says on the tin - he is wild. He is very powerful, very dangerous and very fast. However, he makes numerous mistakes and is wide open to anyone with a boxing brain. I have a better boxing IQ than Wilder has ever had. I'm a student of the game.
"But I'm under no illusions that if his right hand hits me on the button then I'll wake up in Neverland."
Wilder’s promoter Lou DiBella seems interested in the potential for the fight, playing up the US vs. UK angle, and says that Bellew’s promoter Eddie Hearn knows how to contact him if he wants to get moving on the fight.
WBO titlist Joseph Parker has also been mentioned as another lucrative option for Bellew, but Bellew says the terms would have to be in his favor and continues to weigh his ‘so many options.’ In the meanwhile Bellew continues to rehabilitate the broken hand he suffered in his big win over David Haye.
