More than a year after what should have been a star-making knockout of Ruslan Chagaev, Lucas Browne will make his return to the ring on June 2nd in Sydney’s Club Punchbowl. “Big Daddy” confirmed the date on his Instagram earlier this morning and his opponent “will be revealed shortly.”
Browne (24-0, 21 KO), taking a huge step up from the likes of Chauncy Welliver and Julius Long, was down big on the cards against Chagaev and had gone down hard in the sixth. He came back with a strong flurry to put Chagaev away in the tenth, but a series of drug test failures left him on the shelf and bereft of the WBA title.
Shannon Briggs will fight Fres Oquendo for said title next month because boxing.
Once he finishes whatever victim they dredge up for June, is anyone interested in seeing how Browne, now 38, fits into the currently volatile heavyweight picture?
