Dirrell wins by DQ, cornerman attacks Uzcategui

Andre Dirrell won the IBF eliminator, but in eerily similar fashion to his fight against Arthur Abraham.

It was another wild scene in boxing tonight on the Showtime card headlined by Gary Russell Jr. vs. Oscar Escondon. But it will be the fight between Andre Dirrell and Jose Uzcategui that will get the most attention in a bizzare scene, one perfectly befitting of this sport.

On the undercard bout Andre Dirrell was hit after the bell in the 8th which badly hurt him and sent him to the canvas. This was the second time in the fight that Uzcategui had hit Dirrell after the bell and because Dirrell was deemed unable to continue, Uzcategui was disqualified.

But things would take an ugly turn moments later...

Dirrell’s uncle and cornerman would line up a perfectly timed sucker punch on Uzcategui while he was in the corner in retribution for the foul. Here’s a short clip of the incident.

ESPN Dan’s Rafael has since tweeted that the local authorities are looking for Dirrell’s uncle but are unable to find him.

And amidst of all the drama, Andre Dirrell has just become James DeGale’s IBF mandatory challenger.
