Former world titleholders Omar Figueroa and Robert Guerrero will meet in a PBC on FOX main event on July 15, it was announced this evening.

The two will headline at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. On paper, this is a curious place to stage a fight between a Texan and a Californian. But they’ll be backed on the undercard by Staten Island’s Marcus Browne taking on another local draw, Seanie Monaghan, plus a Polish heavyweight battle between Artur Szpilka and Brooklyn-based Adam Kownacki.

Figueroa (26-0-1, 18 KO) hasn’t fought since December 2015, when he beat fellow former lightweight titleholder Antonio DeMarco in a bout contested north of welterweight. This fight with Guerrero (33-5-1, 18 KO) will be at 147 pounds. Guerrero was last seen in August 2016, losing to David Peralta in a pretty notable upset. The 34-year-old Guerrero has lost three of his last four, and even his win over Aron Martinez was debatable.

Browne (19-0, 14 KO) is a 26-year-old prospect and former U.S. Olympian. In his last fight, he looked sharp knocking out Thomas Williams Jr in the sixth round, following a controversial 2016 win over Radivoje Kaladjzic. Monaghan (28-0, 17 KO) is undefeated but seen realistically as a club fighter who’s been given a favorable run of opposition. On paper, Browne has a lot of advantages, and this could wind up a mismatch.

Szpilka (20-2, 15 KO) will be fighting for the first time since he was knocked out by Deontay Wilder in January 2016. Kownacki (15-0, 12 KO) is another fighter who has become something of a name on the NYC circuit, but has yet to face a contender or really anything close.

BoxRec is also listing a fight between former super featherweight titleholder Jose Pedraza (22-1, 12 KO) and Jamel Herring (16-1, 9 KO), but the PBC page doesn’t list that one as of this writing.
