Julio Cesar Chavez Jr has a massive opportunity on Saturday against Canelo Alvarez, in a fight that, if he wins, will resurrect a career that has fallen on some hard times in the last few years.
Chavez (50-2-1, 32 KO) has been training with Nacho Beristain and said this week that despite concerns, he will be good to go on Saturday, and in top shape.
From ESPN:
"I'm very focused on this fight because it is a great opportunity for my career. I feel great to be involved in this event and show the world I can beat anybody. This fight is special and has motivated me to train hard. On [Saturday] I will be 100 percent.”
For Chavez’s sake, we all, as fight fans paying for this event, will have to hope he has indeed trained hard and will be ready.
But the biggest disappointment here could come if Chavez is simply drained by making the weight, and even if he has had a great camp, there’s not a lot he would be able to do about that. He hasn’t had to make a weight this low in almost five years.
