2016 Olympic silver medalist and Newark native Shakur Stevenson made his pro debut on April 22, and won’t be waiting long to get back in the ring, as he’ll return on May 20 at Madison Square Garden, fighting on the Terence Crawford-Felix Diaz undercard.
From ESPN:
"It's been a long time since I fought so close to home and I can't wait to perform in front of my friends and family. My city has always supported me and I know that Newark is going to come out on May 20. There have been so many huge fights at Madison Square Garden and I'm excited to fight in the big room where so many greats have fought before.
"I'm training out in Colorado with Terence Crawford and I'm happy I get to fight on his card in such a historic arena. I'm going to make sure everyone comes out and supports us both."
Stevenson (1-0, 0 KO) won his first fight via technical decision, and will be facing Argentina’s Carlos Gaston Suarez (6-3-2, 1 KO) on May 20. It won’t be a real test for him, but it will get him a fight at MSG, and keep him active as he starts his pro career.
