George Groves may have finally overcome the hurdle to becoming a world champion in his fourth attempt, but it didn’t come without a price. Groves has announced on Twitter that he broke his jaw in the third round against Fedor Chudinov this past weekend, which will clearly leave him sidelined for the foreseeable future.
#PreOpPic It turns out I only went and broke my jaw in the 3rd round on Saturday, that or broke it from over smiling since! #WorthIt pic.twitter.com/YsiiZEyl2u

You can obviously tell from Groves tweet that the pain and discomfort has totally been worth him finally winning a world title, but a broken jaw is a broken jaw and that is never good news for a professional fighter.
But hopefully Groves will be able to bounce back well to defend the belt he’s worked so long and hard to get. He’s been linked to a rematch with James DeGale, which would presumably be an attractive domestic battle in the UK, but nothing substantive has come out just yet. In fact, with Groves due to undergo surgery imminently, plans for his return will likely be on hold indefinitely.
