The much-rumored fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor would appear to have found a landing spot at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on August 26.
No official announcement for the fight has been made yet, but with McGregor teasing that a BIG announcement is on its way and Mayweather being spotted back in sparring sessions, I think we can safely assume the fight is pretty much academic at this point.
On the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s website, they now have an event listed for August 26 at the MGM Grand, with a note that Mayweather Promotions will be hosting a boxing event. And with Mayweather’s usual September date recently taken by the announcement of Canelo-Golovkin, it appears as though Mayweather-McGregor may have been pushed up to this summer.
And contrary to rational thought, at least some industry insiders are expecting a Mayweather-McGregor fight to rival the revenue generated by Mayweather-Pacquiao, despite this fight being an objectively lopsided mismatch. That apparently won’t make this any less of an event, however, so gear up for a media blitz that will only hit a fever pitch once the formal announcement’s been made.
