That was fast.
Just days after the two received orders from the WBC, The Ring reports that former IBF super welterweight champion Jermall Charlo will face top middleweight contender Jorge Sebastian Heiland for a shot at Gennady Golovkin on the July 29th undercard of Adrien Broner vs. Mikey Garcia.
Charlo (25-0, 19 KO) thrashed Cornelius Bundrage for the title back in 2015, then disposed of the overmatched Wilky Campfort two months later. He had to settle for a decision against Austin Trout, but returned to his finishing ways with a five-round drubbing of highly touted Julian Williams.
Heiland (29-4-2, 16 KO) has won eight straight, seven by knockout, since a majority decision loss to Mateo Damian Veron that he avenged two months ago. He’s best known for his savage knockout of Matthew Macklin, which has taken a good 2.5 years to produce gains for his career.
Honestly, this is a damn fine card. I’m looking forward to it, and not just because I think Broner will get manhandled.
