Danish super middleweight great Mikkel Kessler has been teasing a comeback for a while and may have found an opponent. Speaking to Danish paper BT, Kalle Sauerland reported that Kessler and unbeaten Swede Erik Skoglund, both of whom he promotes, are interested in doing battle. Even more interestingly, Sauerland floated the idea of both men joining the World Boxing Super Series tournament later this year.

Skoglund (26-0, 12 KO) recently announced his move to 168 after spending virtually the entirety of his career at light heavyweight and affirmed his desire to face Kessler. The 26-year-old is still in the prospect stage of his career, his résumé anchored by wins over Glen Johnson, Ryno Liebenberg, and Timy Shala.

Kessler (46-3, 35 KO) turned 38 in March and has not fought since his brutal rematch with Carl Froch in May of 2013. If he does wind up joining the WBSS, here’s hoping it goes better than the Super Six, which saw Kessler only fight Andre Ward and the aforementioned Froch.

Does anyone see Kessler having an impact in the modern super middleweight division? If not, then can he at least handle Skoglund?
