Luis Arias didn’t totally dominate statistically, but statistics don’t always tell the story of a fight. In reality, Arias did dominate Arif Magomedov tonight in Las Vegas, kicking off the HBO pay-per-view event with a fifth round stoppage victory.
Arias (18-0, 9 KO) was in full control from the outset, rattling Magomedov (18-2, 11 KO) with good power shots and some strong body work, while Magomedov tried to respond but just had no zip on his shots, nothing to make Arias respect him.
Arias landed 74 of 245 (30%) of his punches, including 57 of 126 (45%) of his power shots. Magomedov landed 61 of 209 (29%) total punches, and 44 of 128 (34%) power shots. Those numbers aren’t outrageously one-sided or anything, but the difference in the quality of the shots the fighters landed was huge, with Arias simply on a different level.
The official time of the stoppage was 1:16 of round five.
