World Boxing Super Series names its first three participants

Murat Gassiev, Mairis Briedis, and Krzysztof Wlodarczyk will all take part in the cruiserweight tournament.

Promoters Richard Schaefer and Kalle Sauerland ensured the public that they would get top talent to participate in the first season of the World Boxing Super Series and they are beginning to deliver.

It’s just been announced via ESPN that three top fighters at cruiserweight have already been selected to participate in the 8-man tourney: IBF titlist Murat Gassiev (24-0, 17 KOs), WBC titlist Mairis Briedis (22-0, 18 KOs), and former titlist Krzysztof Wlodarczyk (53-3-1, 37 KOs).

"We promised you the biggest names and champions in the divisions and here we are delivering," Schaefer said. "More names will follow shortly. We simply can't wait to get the action started."

These three fighters will compete in a single eliminator tournament, along with five other cruiserweights yet to be determined, and will vie for the biggest portion of $50M in total prize money, along with a shot to win the Muhammad Ali trophy.

Kalle Sauerland says that tournament organizers continue to sift through a hefty stack of applications for to determine who else will be apart of the tournament, which is slated to kick off this September.
