Sulaiman: World waiting on Wilder-Joshua

A showdown between Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua should be one of the biggest fights to make in the sport.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman tells ESPN that his organization will fully support a heavyweight title unification between Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua. It would be a huge fight between two huge heavyweight titlists, and a bout that could reasonably be argued as a toss-up.

"I believe it's a must that we have more unification fights in boxing," Sulaiman told ESPN. "Because there are so many champions, a good champion can run out of contenders.

"Wilder and Joshua is a must. I think the world be waiting for that fight and I don't see anyone beating either of them.”

But before that any Wilder-Joshua showdown can materialize, Wilder must make a mandatory title defense of his WBC belt against Bermane Stiverne while Joshua has to sort out his business with Wladimir Klitschko.

Joshua is still awaiting an official decision from Klitschko on whether he’ll retire or enforce his mandatory rematch clause following their first meeting in April, but if Klitschko does in fact retire, Joshua will defend his titles against Kubrat Pulev next instead.

But let’s prognosticate a little - just for the heck of it. Who would you pick in a fight between Wilder and Joshua? And when is the best for that fight to happen?
