Wilder wants big haul for Whyte fight

Deontay Wilder has taken to social media to tell Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn that he’s going to have to up his offer if he wants Dillian Whyte to get a shot at him. Hearn has recently said he’s made a ‘big offer’ to Wilder for the title fight, which Wilder later revealed to be for $3 million.

Wilder, however, apparently wants more like $7 million to make that fight happen, which would presumably be a nonstarter. But in an effort to goad Hearn into digging deep into those pockets, Wilder continues to taunt both Whyte and Hearn on Instagram (with some potty-mouth language).

"If you're serious get your master Eddie Hearn to follow the procedures and get the fight made," Wilder wrote. "He bought a fresh champion in Charles Martin's IBF Belt so let's see him come and buy mine!

"Please do the Brits a favor and come and shut this American WBC Champion up because how I see it, it's USA Vs Everybody!

"The Takeover has begun. Now think it's a game and watch me stand over your body as the gun smoke clears."

Wilder has been increasingly vocal and aggressive in the past few months, on more than one occasion promising to literally ‘catch a body’ (murder someone) inside the ring. While that’s probably in poor taste considering all the recent tragedies inside the ring, Wilder is fortunate to not be British fighter in this context, as the boxing control board would probably want haul him into a hearing for such statements...

Anyway, if a Wilder-Whyte fight is indeed in the cards for the foreseeable future, there will have to be a lot of work done to settle on a purse amount while also coming to terms on a step-aside agreement for Bermane Stiverne, who is currently Wilder’s mandatory challenger.
