In case you missed it last Friday, HBO has just released their latest installment of 24/7 focused on the rematch between Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev. The two light heavyweights will fight for Ward’s WBA, WBO, and IBF world titles on Saturday, June 17th on HBO PPV.
This installment picks up with behind the scenes footage in the immediate aftermath of Kovalev-Ward I, with a noticeably pissed off Sergey Kovalev at a loss for words over the judges decision while an elated Ward celebrates in his dressing room.
This segment switches into a feature on the first fight itself, with both Ward and Kovalev giving their reactions about how the fight unfolded along with their respective camps. That leads to a few pretty funny sound bites, including at the 11:30-minute mark when Kovalev reenacts Ward’s inside fighting style:
“[Ward] punch like a girl, like a ‘tic, tic, tic, tic, tic,’ you know, like easy points for judges. Just, ok, I didn’t know that this bullshit - judges can count it.”
After revisiting their first fight, we then get a glimpse at both fighters in their current training camps as well as their respective families and motivations going into this fight. The two pound-for-pound fighters will go head to head once again in just a couple weeks.
