For the second straight fight, Kell Brook left the ring with a broken orbital bone. For the second straight fight, he’ll have to undergo surgery.

Brook (36-2, 25 KO) lost his IBF welterweight title a couple of weeks ago when he was stopped in the 11th round by Errol Spence Jr in Sheffield, England, suffering a fractured orbital bone around his left eye. That followed last year’s loss to Gennady Golovkin, who broke the orbital bone around Brook’s right eye.

Brook, 31, will thus be out of action for a bit, and could conceivably take the rest of 2017 off following his second straight defeat. The real concern is how vulnerable he’ll be going forward in his career. Antonio Margarito never truly recovered from the same injury suffered against Manny Pacquiao, but his career was already waning, too. Brook is otherwise in his prime, despite the two straight losses to high-end opposition.

Do you think Brook will be a factor again going forward, either at 147 or 154?
