Styles make fights. Chris Eubank Jr fought the Chris Eubank Jr style. Arthur Abraham fought the Arthur Abraham style. So Eubank won every round.
Eubank (25-1, 19 KO) won today’s fight at Wembley Arena on scores of 118-110, 118-110, and 120-108, with Abraham (46-6, 30 KO) never competitive in the bout, echoing his 2016 shutout loss to Gilberto Ramirez. BLH scored the fight 120-108 for Eubank.
Eubank, 27, now moves on to compete in the World Boxing Super Series, where he has a first round matchup set with Avni Yildirim (16-0, 10 KO).
The second-generation fighter used his activity, both hands and feet, to give Abraham, 37, fits, which is no surprise if you’ve seen Abraham fight before. He’s always struggled with fighters like this, and the thought coming in was that if Eubank fought like himself and didn’t get caught with anything big, he’d cruise to victory. The fight played out like most imagined.
So we know what’s next for Eubank, but what about Abraham? This loss confirms what we learned against Ramirez, that against top talents he’s going to have a tremendously tough time winning rounds, let alone fights. Does he consider retirement, having done all he can do in boxing? Or does he go back to Germany, “rebuild” with a couple of fights like he did after the Ramirez loss, and take another shot at the top level, being a known name and, frankly, something of an easy mark for a top fighter these days?
