Miguel Berchelt established himself firmly as one of the top dogs at 130 pounds tonight, outgunning Takashi Miura over 12 rounds in the HBO Boxing After Dark main event, retaining his WBC title.
Scores were 116-111, 119-108, and 120-109. BLH’s two cards had the fight 117-110 and 118-109, also both for Berchelt (32-1, 28 KO).
Berchelt, 25, dropped Miura (31-4-2, 24 KO) in the opening round, a flash knockdown, but certainly a clean one. Miura, 33, hung tough in the fight and tried to do damage to the body throughout, having some success, but overall Berchelt just had too dynamic an attack, and started too well for Miura to build any real momentum.
There is some talk of Berchelt facing Orlando Salido, with Salido reportedly saying that he’s been promised the title shot by the WBC, but HBO’s Max Kellerman brought up the possibility of facing the division’s top dog, WBO titleholder Vasyl Lomachenko.
“I beat Vargas, I beat Miura, I’m ready to fight the best,” he said of possibly fighting Vasyl Lomachenko.
