Even those of you with zero interest in Billy Joe Saunders’ September 16th fight with Willie Monroe Jr. should find something worth getting excited for in the coming months. Frank Warren today confirmed the dates for some quality British fights.
Josh Warrington will headline an October 21st Leeds card, but the real star of that show is the British super lightweight title fight between Tyrone Nurse and Jack Catterall, which was originally set to occur last week. The fight will mark Nurse’s fourth defense of his title, which he won in 2015 with a decision over Chris Jenkins.
The other major event, set to take place in Manchester on the following Saturday, features Liam Smith and Liam Williams in a rematch of their controversial April bout. Williams, ahead on the scorecards despite a late surge from Smith, was forced to bow out after the ninth due to a nasty cut, which he attributed to a headbutt. Officials disagreed, giving Smith the stoppage victory.
