Ever since Tony Bellew upset David Haye in April with some help from “Haymaker’s” ACL, the prospect of a rematch has hung tantalizingly above us. The two might finally be putting it together, as talks are reportedly “underway” to stage it in December.
Bellew has both Andre Ward and Joseph Parker in mind if the rematch falls through.
Despite the traditional “hug it out, no hard feelings” bit at the end of the first fight, there’s plenty of lingering resentment between Bellew (29-2-1, 19 KO) and Haye (28-3, 26 KO). That antipathy manifested in some serious brawling the first time around, so I wouldn’t say no to seeing them go at it with more than three functional legs between them.
The current obstacle is Haye’s post-fight vow that he would accept Bellew’s terms just to get a shot at the rematch. Depending on how hard Bellew elects to twist the screws, this could turn into another round of fruitless trash talk.
