Diego De La Hoya will reportedly be taking his first step onto the world stage in September, as trainer Joel Diaz claims he has accepted a fight with former bantamweight champion Randy Caballero on the undercard of Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin.

The fight is one of two possible undercard bouts alongside Antonio Orozco vs. Roberto Ortiz.

De La Hoya (19-0, 9 KO) has looked solid since debuting at the age of 19, most notably beating former prospect Luis Orlando Del Valle last September. This is a nice step up for him; Caballero (24-0, 14 KO) beat Stuart Hall for the IBF bantamweight title in 2014, only to nuke the scales before a planned defense against Lee Haskins. He’s 2-0 since against middling opposition.

It’s a good, well-matched fight between a rising prospect and a former champion who still needs to prove himself at this weight. We’ll keep you posted as the Canelo-GGG lineup develops.
