In a rather surprising announcement, tomorrow evening's featherweight bout between Carl Frampton and Andres Gutierrez has been officially canceled at the 11th hour. Showtime was due to live stream the fight tomorrow on YouTube, but that will no longer be happening.
According to press release, the fight has been called off not due to Frampton missing weight earlier today, but rather due to an "accident" to Andre Gutierrez. It really doesn't get any more vague than that but we certainly wish Gutierrez the best.
A statement from Cyclone Promotions reads:
Cyclone Promotions and The SSE Arena regret to announce that the “Return of The Jackal” event scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday 29th July, has been cancelled due to an accident to Andres Gutierrez.
It is hoped that the event will be re-scheduled but ticket holders are advised to retain their tickets and contact point of purchase for further information.
We'll have more information as it becomes available.
UPDATE: Andres Gutierrez reportedly took a spill in the shower, splitting open his nose and chin while also breaking a few of his teeth. The photos of the injuries are pretty graphic.
